The Central Statistics Agency (BPS)
reported on Wednesday that Indonesia’s economy grew by 4.67 percent in the
first semester of 2015, slower growth than the same period last year, which was
5.03 percent.
The agency also reported that the
country’s economic growth in the second quarter of 2015 slowed down compared to
the same period last year and compared to the previous quarter of this year,
which stood at 4.72 percent.
According to the BPS, Indonesia’s
economy was measured based on the volume of gross domestic product (GDP), which
was based on prices valid in the second quarter of 2015, which reached Rp 2.87
quadrillion (US$212.15 billion), and constant prices in 2010, which reached Rp
2.24 quadrillion.
BPS head Suryamin said that from the
production side, Indonesia’s growth was supported by almost all business
sectors, the highest growth was achieved by the education service sector, which
grew by 12.16 percent.
“From spending, the country’s
economic growth was supported by almost all components, with the highest growth
achieved by household consumption spending, which grew by 4.97 percent,” said
Suryamin.
The BPS reported that in the second
quarter of 2015, Indonesia’s economy grew by 3.78 percent from the previous
quarter. From the production sector, the highest growth was recorded by
businesses in the agriculture, forestry and fisheries sector, which grew by
10.09 percent. Meanwhile, in the spending sector, government consumption
recorded the highest growth, reaching 32.17 percent.
The BPS further reported that in the
first semester of 2015, Indonesia’s economy grew by 4.7 percent from the same
period last year.
“Spatially, Indonesia’s economic
structure in the second quarter of 2015 was dominated by provincial groups in
Java and Sumatra,” said Suryamin.
The provincial group in Java
contributed 58.35 percent to GDP, followed by Sumatra (22.31 percent) and
Kalimantan (8.22 percent).
